As the winter season came to an end on May 1 at the Nebelhorn in Oberstdorf, the Allgäu mountain railway operators have kicked off the summer season. Thanks to the abundant snowfall of the past week, even toboggan runs in Ofterschwang were prepared at short notice.

The mountain railways currently offer a unique experience that combines the best of summer and winter. At the Söllereck in Oberstdorf, summer attractions such as the climbing forest, the Allgäu Coaster, and marble tracks are already in operation, while hikers along the mountain paths may still encounter isolated snow fields. This flexibility and quick response to weather conditions are characteristic of the Allgäu.

Henrik Volpert, chairman of the Allgäu Mountain Railway Initiative (ABBI), expressed optimism about the upcoming summer season: „After a mixed winter season, we are now looking very positively towards summer. Our goal is to always offer guests a high-quality experience. From summer toboggan runs to climbing forests and hiking trails, we can cover everything and offer guests an unforgettable mountain experience.“

Bernhard Joachim, Managing Director of Allgäu GmbH, also highlighted the diversity of the summer offer: „The Allgäu is well positioned for the upcoming summer season with its numerous hiking trails, climbing routes, and family attractions. The mountain railways play a crucial role by enabling many guests to experience the mountains.“

Some mountain railways will offer free rides up and down the mountain on May 5 for guests with disabilities. A daily mountain sports report on www.allgaeu.de provides information on open mountain railways and other leisure activities.

The Allgäu Mountain Railway Initiative (ABBI) brings together 17 ski lift and mountain railway companies in the Allgäu region and advocates for the common interests of the mountain railways. Through cross-border collaboration with companies from Tyrol and Vorarlberg, the ABBI strengthens the position of the Allgäu mountain railways at the regional and international level.
