In the Schwaben South/West area, two men, aged 59 and 60, have become victims of fraudulent investment promises, losing their savings. Over several months, they were deceived out of a sum in the upper six-figure range.

The scammers posed as professional „brokers“ and lured their victims with supposedly attractive capital investments. Under the pretext of achieving high returns, the victims were persuaded to invest in cryptocurrencies and other financial products. Through clever conversations and false information, they convinced the victims to transfer large sums to foreign bank accounts.

The 59-year-old man from Thannhausen was contacted by the scammers over several months. Posing as a „broker,“ he was promised high profit opportunities through investments in cryptocurrencies. He transferred large sums to foreign bank accounts multiple times. Despite the promised returns, he suffered a financial loss in the mid six-figure range. The Memmingen Criminal Police Station has launched an investigation to identify the phone scammers.

The 60-year-old man from the northern district of Oberallgäu fell victim to fraudulent activities. In search of an attractive investment, he contacted unknown providers through an online platform. They promised high profits and, after several phone calls, convinced him to transfer large sums to foreign accounts. Only when access to the alleged provider’s account no longer worked did the victim become suspicious and contact the police. In total, he lost an amount in the lower six-figure range. The Kempten Criminal Police Station has commenced investigations.

It is important to note that reputable investment advisers are required to disclose the risks of their products and document the contents of their consultation. Bank employees and financial service providers must explicitly disclose risks to their customers and document the results of the investment advice.

To protect yourself from such fraud cases, investors should not make investments over the phone and not be swayed by high profit promises. It is advisable to verify the credibility of the provider and not make hasty decisions. Additionally, product certifications should be critically examined, and companies should be checked to see if they are licensed by the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) or another EU country.
